What Makes a High Quality Translation?

This is communicating a message in a language which differs from the original language.

Putting into account the details of the message

Making sure that the meaning is not lost. Translation could be of a verbal or written form. Translation has been in existence since centuries past. It is not a new thing. It has however become very advanced, matching up with the latest technology.  Translation has to involve two different languages.

Qualities of a Good Translation:

First thing first, it must be accurate (it must be the exact thing as the original copy), it must be effective (the impact the writer wants to confer mustn't be lost in translation) and applicable (meets the intended audience).
  • Receiving
On receiving the original copy to be translated, the agent must make sure that the job is well understood. If any area is unclear, questions should be asked and clients should supply the necessary information
  • Reading
The next step is for the agent to read through the document. Understand the message it's passing as well as the target audience. By so doing, the translation will be accurate.
  • Making findings
At some point, it will be fundamental for the agent to research more about the topic at hand. You cannot know everything about everything. More often than not you will be faced with jobs you don't know anything about. Research is fundamental.
  • Outline
After going through the first few steps, this should be easily done. It is important to know what and how you want to start. The body of the message and the conclusion of it. This will help you not to go off track.
  • Edit
Go through what you have outlined, compare it with the message of the author and make sure you've not made omissions.
  • Proofread
Read through what you have written and examined the write-up for typographical errors. It is something you want to avoid at all cost.
In conclusion, I hereby emphasize that a good translation is accurate, effective and precise (meets target audience). The author should make sure the agent is fully equipped with the necessary information so that the message is well understood. Only then can a quality translation be made of it.
